Adoption Grant FAQs
Can you mail me a grant application?
The grant application is only available online. We are not able to mail hard copies of our application. All details concerning Adoption Aid grants are available here.
What adoption types qualify for an Adoption grant?
One Less considers both domestic and international adoptions. For international adoptions, you must be pursuing adoption from a country that is party to The Hague Adoption Convention.
Do you give grants to non-U.S. citizens?
We are not able to award grants to families unless at least one parent is a U.S. citizen. Please keep in mind that your agency must be a licensed U.S. adoption agency and have a 501(c)(3) designation.
Is it possible to apply with One Less if you have received a grant in the past?
Yes. Applicants are welcomed to apply for an Adoption grant for future adoptions. An application must be completed each time.
What if my adoption is completed during the grant review process?
If you travel to pick up your child(ren) while your grant is being considered, it will not affect your grant outcome. You can be reimbursed for previous payments.
Can we start the application before we have an agency?
No. Before applying, you must be working with a licensed, agency that is a 501(c)(3) organization, and you must have a completed home study.
May single parents apply for an Adoption grant?
Yes, however all prospective grant recipients must satisfy the same eligibility criteria.
Do you award grants to families adopting independently?
No. One Less is not able to assist with adoptions that are not processed through a licensed, child-placing agency. A home study provider does not fulfill this requirement if you are using a different child-placing agency or provider.
Do you award grants based on income?
Yes, income is considered. Combined family yearly income must not exceed $180,000 to qualify for an adoption grant.
At what point in the adoption process can a Grant Application be submitted?
Prospective adoptive families must have a completed and approved home study prior to submitting an application for financial assistance. Application must be submitted before placement.
